SPEECH & HEARING: OUR PHILANTHROPY

Speech and Hearing has been Delta Zeta's primary philanthropy concern since 1954. In that time, Delta Zeta women have given hundreds of volunteer hours and raised millions of dollars to benefit the needs of the non-hearing population. All fundraisers and donations collected assist with speech programs and provide equipment to those with hearing challenges. Funds also support programs aimed at hearing loss prevention.

Delta Zeta recognizes and celebrates Heart for Hearing Day, which occurs the first Tuesday in May, coinciding with the start of Better Hearing and Speech Month. Delta Zetas are encouraged to spend this day spreading information about the Sorority’s efforts to meet global needs for improved hearing health.

We named Starkey Hearing Foundation our National Philanthropy Partner in 2015. Starkey has pledged to provide more than one million hearing aids to people in need by 2020, and Delta Zeta had pledged to raise $5 million to help them reach their goal in time. Through this partnership, Delta Zeta has been able to extend its service to a global effort.

Delta Zeta is the only Panhellenic sorority whose philanthropy has an international reach.

THE PAINTED TURTLE CAMP

Delta Zeta’s National Service Project is The Painted Turtle Camp, an innovative camp program for children with serious medical conditions. The camp, which served more than 49,000 children since its founding in 2004, is free of charge for campers and their families. Delta Zeta women from across the nation converge upon Southern California each summer to volunteer their time at the camp.

WING WARS

The Pi Chi Chapter's premier fundraising event is Wing Wars, a competition that pits teams of 3 to 5 against each other in a race to consume 20 wings in under two minutes. Using a March Madness-style bracket format, winners advance to the next round of competition until the final duel.

Thanks to the following supporters and sponsors for 2019's Wing Wars:

  • Buffalo Wing Wings, provider of the wings

  • Fazoli's

  • Nat's Outdoor Sports

  • Blaze Pizza

  • Top of the Hill Nutrition

This event garners great press each year!
